How Amphiva Started
Amphiva was founded by three friends, Calvin Bream, Grady Clem, and Patrick Hart. In their final years at The University of St. Thomas, they frequently joked about the idea of starting a business, which in turn led to the idea & founding of Amphiva.
Over the summer of 2023, Calvin was working as a host in Los Angeles, Grady was working at a local Saint Paul running store, and Patrick was a camp counselor in rural Wisconsin. Grady and Calvin continued to text weekly about different business proposals, none of which lasted more than twenty minutes. As more ideas circulated the idea of starting a business became less and less of a joke.
After a discussion about NIL deals with collegiate track teammates, Grady seeked his own NIL deal from several clothing companies. After failing to find anything of the sorts, the concept of Amphiva was born.
On July 5th, at 1 in the morning, Grady texted Calvin about the idea of starting a clothing brand centered around giving college athletes NIL deals. After an hour of texting ideas back and forth, Amphiva had their first business meeting on the phone, at 2 a.m.
No more than two days later, Grady and Calvin realized they would need one more partner. Although they had a great perspective on the business aspect of the brand, they both lacked an artistic point of view that they thought was crucial for starting a business. They immediately thought of Patrick and after pitching the brand to him, he was on board and Amphiva was formed.
Amphiva launched in November of 2023 with 10 local Twin Cities athletes. In April of 2024, we launched our "Become An Athlete" program, opening the door for any collegiate athlete to apply for an NIL deal. Amphiva now has over 100 athletes around The United States.
In August of 2024, Amphiva welcomed Azure Zelinski as a new partner. Azure has taken on the role of Social Media Manager & Photographer while Calvin & Grady continue to work on the Business Operations for Amphiva.

What Does Amphiva Mean
The Latin root of "amphi'' means "both", while the root word of "viva" means "life". We combined these two words the same way we brought athletic and leisure clothing together, ultimately forging the name Amphiva (am-fee-vuh), which to us means: Both Lives.
Amphiva was created based on the idea of a versatile life. Most athletes have activewear for working out and leisure wear for their own personal style, so why not create a brand to have both? Having both athletic and leisure clothing, we want our customers to embody both lifestyles in a seamless fashion.
